Kathy Dines-Bowman recently announced her retirement from the committee of the Friends of West Mersea Parish Church. To mark the occasion and take the opportunity to thank her personally for her huge contribution to the work of The Friends Kathy, along with her husband Steve, were invited to be guests of honour at a fish and chip supper held at the Oyster Bar on 23rd October.
Nearly five years ago Kathy was asked if she would help to form the charity and it was eventually launched in June 2011. Since then she has overseen many varied events including: Covent Garden Comes to Mersea, The Wedding Event, Strictly Come Dancing, Mehalah Walks, Photographic Talks, Christmas Concerts, Choirs and other musical groups including Sea Shanties, Vocalise and Café Musica, Ribbons of Joy memorial events and many others.
Kathy is a modest person and would be the first to admit that she has been surrounded by a strong team of helpers drawn from the committee and the membership. But it has been Kathy’s drive and imagination which have enabled us to stage such a variety of exciting activities. As well as helping us to raise a considerable amount of money, these activities have also bought new life to the church and extended its reach to many new and different people within our community.
Committee Chairman John May thanked Kathy for her contribution and wished her well with her plans to see more of the world in her belated ‘gap-year’ adventures with Steve. He presented Kathy with a bouquet and some vouchers which we hoped will come in useful in future travels.
