The Friends of West Mersea Parish Church

A charity set up to keep the historic church in the heart of West Mersea beautiful

Help us raise £10k to repair church porch

The porch on our Grade I listed church has become unsafe and has crumbling masonry.  Due to the age of the church, the work needed to repair it has to be carried out by specialists and the estimate is £10,000.  We will be carrying out a number of fund raising activities to raise the money but if you feel you could donate directly it would be much appreciated.

Our Story

In 2011, the late Col. Jeremy Dumas in his role as Fabric Officer, recognised that unless something was done quickly, the church building of St. Peter & St. Paul in the heart of West Mersea village, could become very difficult to maintain in good order as a central and historical part of West Mersea.  He set about gathering together like minded friends who thought that this thousand year old church was worth preserving for future generations and “The Friends of West Mersea Parish Church” registered charity was founded. Since then, the friends have raised AND spent over £100,000 through membership, concerts and events thus enabling many improvement projects to walls, windows, roof, tower and other enhancements.
